About the role

Africa50 Mobility is a specialised infrastructure platform launched by Africa50 to develop, finance, and operate road and bridge infrastructure assets across Africa, mobilising private capital for transport infrastructure and supporting governments with sustainable funding models. The Associate Director, Development will identify and execute project development investments, leading the structuring and negotiation of equity and project-finance transactions with sponsors, lenders, and public authorities. The role is based in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, with regular travel across Africa.

Key responsibilities

Develop a robust pipeline of opportunities by anticipating market trends and leveraging sector, sponsor, and country knowledge

Lead the structuring of project development and equity investments

Lead and participate in negotiations with sponsors, lenders, and public authorities

Drive portfolio projects toward bankability with a strong focus on achieving investment-ready outcomes

Maintain a strong understanding of project and concession financing and policy issues

Prepare project-related documents for internal and external audiences

Build and maintain strong relationships with infrastructure companies, banking and multilateral partners, and government officials

Develop thorough knowledge of the transport sector, including major operators and technologies

Contribute to supervising portfolio companies

Key requirements

8+ years of investment and industry experience in project development, investment, and/or project finance in the transport sector (concessionaire, infrastructure department at an investment bank, DFI, advisory firm, or infrastructure PE fund with project development exposure)

MBA, MSc, or equivalent qualification

Project management experience

Solid understanding of concession agreements, PPP, EPC, and O&M contracts

Demonstrated track record of closing transactions

Awareness of the latest trends and developments in infrastructure financing

Strong work ethic; this role regularly requires late nights, weekends, and travel

Self-starter with high initiative, clarity of thought, and decisive action

Nice to have

Strong connection to Africa with intent to have an Africa-focused career

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively across cultural backgrounds

Living experience in emerging countries

Prior knowledge of African infrastructure and existing relationships in Africa
