About the role
responsAbility is a leading Swiss impact asset manager managing USD 5.9 billion across approximately 70 countries, and part of M&G Investments since 2022. This Senior Investment Officer role in Cape Town focuses on expanding climate finance activities in Sub-Saharan Africa within the Direct Lending platform, originating and structuring debt transactions with climate finance entities across renewable energy, energy efficiency, e-mobility and food systems.
Key responsibilities
Identify debt investment prospects in climate finance sectors including renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate infrastructure, e-mobility and food systems
Execute complete deal processes: sourcing, due diligence, financial analysis, credit assessment and legal documentation
Design and negotiate debt transactions aligned with fund risk/return parameters
Prepare and present investment proposals to decision-making bodies
Supervise legal documentation negotiations with counsel support
Provide thematic expertise in market segments and technologies
Build sector networks across the region through stakeholder engagement
Develop investment strategy for Sub-Saharan Africa in collaboration with partners
Coordinate with international teams in Cape Town, Mumbai, Tbilisi and Zurich
Key requirements
Eight or more years in climate finance investment roles
Post-graduate degree in Economics, Business Administration, Finance or equivalent
Documented structured debt or equity deal experience in climate finance
Substantial emerging markets due diligence leadership experience
Established networks within Sub-Saharan Africa’s climate technology sector
Demonstrated business development and relationship management abilities with regional travel capacity
Strong analytical, writing and presentation capabilities
Fluent English business communication skills
Nice to have
French language proficiency
