About the role
The Investment Officer in Financial Inclusion Debt is based in responsAbility's Cape Town office, focusing on developing and managing financial sector debt investments across Sub-Saharan Africa. The position covers the full investment lifecycle — from sourcing through due diligence, implementation, and ongoing portfolio monitoring — with a primary focus on microfinance institutions and related financial entities. responsAbility is a Swiss impact asset manager dedicated to investing in emerging and frontier markets to promote sustainable development.
Key responsibilities
Develop, manage, and expand debt investments in African financial markets
Conduct credit risk analysis of counterparties through due diligence and scoring exercises in collaboration with Credit and Risk teams
Manage the complete investment lifecycle: sourcing, due diligence, implementation, portfolio management, and monitoring
Structure transactions in coordination with risk management and investment committee teams
Represent the organisation at industry conferences and events
Work with external stakeholders on transaction implementation and execution
Key requirements
Degree in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
Minimum 5 years of experience in the financial sector in an international environment, ideally as a credit analyst
Knowledge of microfinance, SME finance, and leasing sectors
Excellent oral and written English communication skills
Strong analytical, writing, and presentation abilities
Commercial acumen and interest in business development
Ability and willingness to travel frequently within Africa
Nice to have
Advanced graduate degree from a recognised institution
French or Arabic language skills
