About the role
The Investment Manager at FEDA will lead all phases of the investment process for FEDA's Direct Investment Fund strategy, covering deal origination, evaluation, structuring, and portfolio oversight through to exit, with a focus on African direct investments. The role involves managing an investment team and engaging with investment committees, portfolio companies, and external stakeholders. FEDA (Fund for Export Development in Africa) is an impact investment subsidiary of Afreximbank dedicated to supporting the growth and transformation of Africa's trade and industrial sectors through equity and quasi-equity investments. The role is based in Kigali, Rwanda.
Key responsibilities
Lead and manage the investment team through deal origination, evaluation, investment committee participation, Board meetings, portfolio company management, exit strategies, and fundraising
Conduct thorough risk assessments and evaluate the potential merits of investments or innovative greenfield projects
Lead comprehensive financial analysis, modelling, and valuation to evaluate investment opportunities and perform portfolio monitoring
Oversee the deal structuring process, including term sheet preparation, investment memo drafting, and negotiation
Conduct in-depth due diligence on target companies and coordinate with due diligence advisors; present findings to FEDA's management and investment committee
Monitor portfolio company performance, value-creation plans, and ESG action plans
Prepare monthly and quarterly investment reports for FEDA's governance (Executive Management, Board, Investors)
Stay informed on market trends, regulatory changes, and economic factors affecting FEDA's investments
Support fundraising initiatives, including creating marketing materials and participating in investor meetings
Key requirements
Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Banking, Engineering, Sciences, or a related field
Minimum 8 years of work experience, with at least 5 years in investment banking, private equity, or a similar financial role
Strong financial analysis and valuation methodology expertise
Advanced Excel and financial modelling proficiency
Deep knowledge of private equity legal and regulatory frameworks
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with the ability to analyse complex financial data
Willingness to relocate to Kigali, Rwanda
