About the role
AgDevCo Ventures (AV) is a new impact investment vehicle established as a subsidiary of AgDevCo Ltd, a social impact investor with approximately $340 million under management. AV has raised $48 million to invest mezzanine debt into early-stage agri-SMEs across East Africa (Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania), supporting business growth while creating jobs, improving food security, and boosting regional prosperity. Launching in 2026, this Investment Manager role is among the first hires to the AV team and reports to the Head of AgDevCo Ventures in Nairobi.
Key responsibilities
Originate investment opportunities and perform initial screening and appraisal of new investments in East Africa
Participate in commercial negotiations on the structure and terms of potential investments alongside the Head of Ventures
Carry out due diligence of investment opportunities, including oversight of Analysts/Associates and liaison with third-party service providers
Prepare and write internal investment approval papers and present these to AV's Investment Committee
Oversee legal execution of approved transactions, working closely with internal and external legal counsel
Serve as primary point of contact for multiple AV portfolio investments
Monitor and evaluate investment performance against key targets, managing and reporting risks as they arise
Provide or procure investee support and technical assistance as required
Contribute to quarterly portfolio reporting to AV's IC/Board
Develop and maintain an active pipeline of investment opportunities in East Africa
Participate in budget and investment target setting and contribute to overall strategy and operational objectives
Monitor financial performance against agreed KPIs and contribute to external reporting
Key requirements
Minimum 6-8 years' experience in a relevant investment business (private equity, DFI, impact investor, SME investor, or commercial bank)
Experience working in Africa in an investment role
Excellent analytical, finance, and negotiation skills including familiarity with mezzanine debt instruments
Strong financial modelling skills including equity valuation models
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Collegiate working style with strong management capability
Ability to develop and manage strategic relationships with donors, peer organisations, and potential investees
Right to work in Kenya without need for sponsorship

Agribusiness or agricultural sector exposure
Understanding and experience of donor funding and development priorities in Africa and their reporting requirements
