About the role

Africa50 is a pan-African infrastructure investor leading the DRE Africa Platform, a US$700+ million initiative under the World Bank’s Mission 300 programme. This Investment Director role focuses on deploying equity capital to accelerate distributed renewable energy access and sustainable development across the continent.

Key responsibilities

Identify and develop a pipeline of DRE investment opportunities using market intelligence and country-specific expertise

Lead end-to-end execution of equity investments with emphasis on bankable, high-impact projects

Negotiate investment documentation with developers, financial institutions and government bodies

Conduct due diligence, financial modelling and risk assessment across all investment stages

Oversee portfolio company performance and value creation

Maintain investor relationships and prepare timely reports

Lead and mentor project teams

Build relationships with DRE companies, multilateral partners and government officials

Key requirements

Approximately 15 years of experience, with minimum 8+ years in equity investment at top-tier institutions (investment banks, private equity, DFIs)

Proven track record in the broader energy sector, ideally with DRE exposure

Prior experience leading and mentoring investment teams

Undergraduate degree from a top-tier university

Strong connection to Africa by origin or demonstrated commitment

Impact-driven mindset with commitment to sustainable development

Nice to have

MBA, MSc or equivalent qualification

Living experience in emerging markets

Existing relationships within African energy ecosystems
