About the role
Proparco is the private-sector financing arm of Agence Française de Développement (AFD). Its Investments department deploys approximately EUR 350 million annually in equity and quasi-equity operations, structured around three teams: Africa and Mediterranean (growth equity), Asia and Latin America, and Financial Institutions and Venture Capital. This role sits within the Africa and Mediterranean team and allocates 50-60% of time to direct company investments and 40-50% to investment fund transactions. French is the primary working language.
Key responsibilities
Support senior management and senior investment officers in identifying new investment opportunities
Evaluate projects (direct equity participations and investment funds) on technical, legal, economic, and financial dimensions, including sustainability and development outcomes
Analyse, monitor, and mitigate all project risks, including environmental and social risks
Build financial models and project financial projections
Draft and present investment proposal notes to decision-making bodies
Analyse, prepare, and negotiate legal documentation for transactions
Negotiate financial terms and contract conditions
Prepare and execute initial disbursements
Participate in governance bodies of portfolio companies and funds
Monitor investment performance and oversee implementation of value-creation plans
Produce portfolio reporting including valuation and risk monitoring
Initiate and manage portfolio disposals when appropriate
Monitor sector policies and promote Proparco tools through professional networks
Represent AFD/Proparco in relationships with technical partners, counterparts, and prospects
Key requirements
2-5 years of experience in investment roles: financial analysis, due diligence, financial modelling, valuation, governance, and/or legal structuring of equity transactions
Capacity to work autonomously and manage several projects simultaneously
Strong analytical, written, and interpersonal skills for client and partner interactions
Financial modelling proficiency in Excel
Fluent English, written and spoken (mandatory)
Fluent French, written and spoken (mandatory working language)
Readiness for regular international travel to Africa
Nice to have
Experience in developing countries
Interest in development finance and investment in Proparco's geographies
