Summary
This Johannesburg role supports Standard Bank’s Energy & Infrastructure Sector Coverage team within Corporate & Investment Banking. The Associate turns sector, company and macroeconomic research into financial models, client insights and materials used to originate, structure and execute transactions. Work includes maintaining sector intelligence, analysing client businesses and preparing proposals and pitch books in coordination with product and control teams. The position combines quantitative research with practical client-coverage support: producing accurate transaction deliverables, understanding the CIB product offering and applying the regulatory requirements relevant to the sector. It is a full-time position at 30 Baker Street.
Key responsibilities
Build and update sector forecasts and financial models; translate outputs into charts, dashboards and client insights.
Research company finances, ownership, value drivers, prospects and sector developments, maintaining the coverage database.
Provide timely analytical deliverables for transaction origination, structuring and execution.
Draft proposals, pitch books, presentations, circulars, market updates and case studies for client engagements.
Apply relevant risk, regulatory and business-control requirements to transaction and client materials.
Build working relationships across CIB product teams, Risk and Legal to support coverage and portfolio activities.
Key requirements
First degree in Business, Commerce, Finance or Accounting.
Three to four years researching and interpreting qualitative and quantitative information and preparing client documentation.
Three to four years of sector understanding and knowledge of the CIB proposition relevant to origination.
Three to four years using PowerPoint, Excel, financial modelling and valuations at an advanced level.
Three to four years working across functions to support clients.
Three to four years understanding the relevant sector’s regulatory environment.
Three to four years in portfolio-management support, including stakeholder collaboration, compliance, reporting or middle-office activity.
Nice to have
Two to three years in a CIB product environment such as investment banking, global markets or transactional banking.
