About the role

The Associate Director, Deputy Head Egypt, Financial Institutions is a senior leadership position supporting both EBRD's Egypt country strategy and its Financial Institutions business. The role combines financial-sector strategy, client development, transaction origination and execution, portfolio oversight, policy engagement, fundraising and junior-banker leadership. It reports to the Director, Financial Institutions Middle East and Africa and works closely with the Managing Director for SEMED and senior country management.

Key responsibilities

Support implementation of EBRD's Egypt country strategy and annual Financial Institutions targets

Serve as a senior contact for Egyptian financial-sector clients and develop new business

Lead the expansion of EBRD's financial-institutions pipeline and client footprint in Egypt

Originate, structure and oversee execution of financial-sector investments

Ensure transaction quality and compliance with EBRD policies and approval procedures

Coordinate investment, policy and advisory activities with Banking, Equity, SME Finance and other teams

Contribute to policy initiatives that improve Egypt's financial sector and investment environment

Support fundraising for technical assistance and blended-finance programmes

Oversee annual counterparty credit reviews and continuous portfolio-risk monitoring

Manage implementation and monitoring issues across the Financial Institutions portfolio

Review and approve investment documents for committees and the Board

Manage, mentor and allocate work to Analysts and Associate Bankers

Represent EBRD with clients, government bodies, industry organisations and external forums

Key requirements

Bachelor's degree in economics, business administration, finance or a related field

Extensive transactional-banking and financial-institutions experience

Strong understanding of Egypt's financial sector, private investment environment and economic priorities

Proven experience originating, structuring and executing financial-sector transactions

Strong portfolio, credit-risk and compliance-management experience

Strategic decision-making and senior stakeholder-management capabilities

Experience leading, mentoring and developing junior bankers

Excellent networking, communication and influencing skills

Fluency in English

Ability to operate effectively in a complex matrix organisation

Nice to have

Higher degree in economics, business administration, finance or a related discipline

Arabic proficiency

Prior knowledge of EBRD policies and operational procedures
