About the role
The Public Investment Corporation (PIC) is one of Africa's largest asset managers, managing funds on behalf of South African government employees and other public-sector institutions. This Assistant Portfolio Manager role (Grade E1-E2, reference APMG070726) sits within the Multi-Management Public Markets team, assisting in manager selection and portfolio construction across allocated asset classes while providing a high level of support in the monitoring of external managers.
Key responsibilities
Assist in manager selection and portfolio construction across allocated asset classes
Monitor financial market developments and their impact on client portfolios
Analyse existing managers using qualitative and quantitative approaches
Produce risk and return analysis of managers against peer groups
Generate reports for clients and internal committees including the Portfolio Management Committee and Investment Committee
Conduct quantitative analysis relative to benchmarks and peer groups
Research and evaluate investment strategies, ideas, and concepts
Key requirements
B Com (Hons) or BSc (Hons) in Financial Management
10+ years of post-qualification investment experience
Minimum 5 years in multi-manager funds and minimum 5 years in global strategies
Excellent quantitative skills including Excel and risk tools such as MSCI Barra or Bloomberg
Strong ability to research, interpret, and communicate investment recommendations
Solid knowledge of investment managers' disciplines and portfolio characteristics
Nice to have
Masters, CFA, or CA(SA)
