About the role

As an Assistant Investment Manager (Strategic Initiatives and AfCFTA Adjustment Fund), you will support FEDA's investment team across the full investment lifecycle, with primary focus on the Strategic Initiatives Fund — a $250 million fund strategy dedicated to high-impact greenfield investments in critical sectors — and the operationalisation and deployment of the AfCFTA Adjustment Fund. FEDA (Fund for Export Development in Africa) is the investment arm of Afreximbank, a pan-African multilateral institution mandated to finance and promote intra- and extra-African trade and industrialisation.

Key responsibilities

Support the investment team across deal origination, evaluation, investment committees, Board presentations, portfolio company management, exit strategies, and fundraising

Assess risks, opportunities, and merits of proposed investments or innovative greenfield projects within the Strategic Initiatives Fund

Conduct comprehensive financial analysis, modelling, and valuation to evaluate investment opportunities and perform portfolio monitoring

Support deal structuring, term sheet preparation, investment memo drafting, and negotiation

Perform due diligence on target companies and coordinate due diligence advisors

Support the operationalisation, capital deployment, fundraising, and ongoing monitoring and governance of the AfCFTA Adjustment Fund

Monitor and evaluate portfolio company performance, supporting value-creation plans including ESG action plans

Prepare monthly and quarterly investment reports for FEDA's governance bodies (Executive Management, Board, Investors)

Stay updated on market trends, regulatory changes, and economic factors affecting FEDA's investments

Key requirements

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Banking, Engineering, Sciences, or a related field

Minimum 5 years of work experience, with at least 3 years in investment banking, private equity, or a similar financial role

Strong financial analysis, valuation, and investment structuring experience

Proficiency in financial modelling, Excel, and analytical tools

Solid understanding of private equity and greenfield investments in Africa

Ability to work in a fast-paced investment environment across multiple fund strategies

Familiarity with legal and regulatory frameworks governing private equity investments

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice to have

MBA or MSc in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or Banking
